I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: July 27, 2009 07:24AMWhen Tida was first diagnosed, I rushed and bought anexpensive iPet glucometerthrough 1800petmeds (it was $79.99). The test strips are $29.99 + shipping foronly 25 strips. I am almost out of strips, and I believe that if I buy anotherbrand of meter, that the replacements strips will be less expensive and I canget them locally.I have seen talk of a walmart brand or possible accu-check.

It was pretty cheap,I think maybe it was around 12.00? And it came with a lancing pen, a few test strips, different colored covers for the meter, and themeter itself. The lancets run 4.00 for 100 I believe, the test strips, whichyou can ONLY get from wal mart run 22.00 for 50.
Forus it seemed the best way to go since it requires such a smallllllllllldrop of blood. Now that her ears are bleeding pretty well for us we arethinking of switching to a different meter, like an accucheckonly because you can buy the test strips on e bay, where you get more quantityfor just a little more money.
But for now we are happy with the walmart relion micro.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: July 27, 2009 02:40PMAccuChek Aviva is good butthe test strips are pricey. Many buy the test strips from EBay or variouspharmacy web sites like HealthWarehouse.comAccuChek Advantage takes too large a drop of blood(M&M candy size) and it takes too long to give a reading so I don'trecommend it.Many people like the ReliOn meteresfrom Wal Mart. They are inexpensive, both the meterand the test strips. Last I checked a meter was $9.99 and a box of 50 teststrips was $20. There are a few different meter models you can choose from. One Touch Ultra is good and not too expensive.A generic meter like TruTrack or SideKickalso works well. Most pharmacies have their own generic meter and test strips.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: July 28, 2009 07:00AMI also used the Walmart Relionmeter for both Witn and Spot.
I was very pleased withit and the couple times I had to contact their customer support because Calliedamaged the meters knocking them off the counter, their customer supportdepartment was excellant and I had a new meter thenext day.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: July 30, 2009 10:56AMI got the WalMart Relionmeter for $9.99. It came with a few test strips a few lancets, a lancet pen, carrying case, and log book. The Relion uses.6 ulblood, pretty small, and completes it's test in 5seconds.I have been happy with it.That said, I also just purchased a Precision Xtra® Blood Glucose and KetoneMonitoring System. I got that one specifically for testing blood ketones. I haven't tried it out yet.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: July 31, 2009 08:48AMI used a one touch ultra and mini meters.
I found the least expensive teststrips at: www.overstockdrugstore.com.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: August 3, 2009 04:15AMI have the True Test from Walgreens. Got my firststrips free for buying the glucometer. (Howeverpharmacist gave me wrong strips and had to go buy new ones! So they weren'tfree afterall.) Make sure they give you the rightstrips.
It's easy to use and calibrate. And wicks up and reads from a verysmall drop of blood. But I am a newbie - so I hope it is a good glucometer! It was mentioned on Dr. Lisa's site as OK.Re: I need to change glucometers, any advice?Date: August 8, 2009 02:20PMI just saw the Relion Ultima($9) is being discontinued (i.e.
